Fire safety on an occupied building
A school, hall of residence or lecture block is occupied, so the façade must meet its reaction-to-fire class under EN 13501-1. That means a fire-retardant grade is specified where HPL is used, and a combustible PE-core ACP or unrated laminate is ruled out on the taller and more occupied blocks.

- A2-core ACP — where a flat, modern, any-colour finish suits an administration or library block, an A2-core composite is classified A2-s1,d0 (limited combustibility).
Best practice keeps HPL and any decorative panel to its right place — low-rise, soffits, balconies and accents — and reaches for non-combustible fibre-cement or an A2-core ACP where the building demands it. The choice within the shortlist is made on appearance, service life and relative cost.
