The Problem: You Want Real Stone Without Cladding the Whole Building in It
Natural stone is the prestige façade — granite, limestone and sandstone give a depth and permanence no manufactured panel matches, and it is inherently non-combustible. But solid stone is heavy and the most costly system in the family, so cladding an entire tower in it is rarely the right call. Veneer changes that: thin stone on a support system, or backed lightweight panels, let you place real stone exactly where it earns its keep — the entrance, the feature wall, the institutional façade that has to read as permanent — without the weight and cost of the whole building.

Ideas That Work in Ghana
Entrance and Lobby Façades
The highest-impact, best-value use of stone veneer. A granite or limestone entrance signals permanence and seriousness the moment someone arrives — for a bank, a hotel, a headquarters or a chancery. Concentrate the stone where every visitor sees it, and use a more economical system on the elevations they don’t.
Feature and Accent Walls
A single book-matched or coursed stone wall against flat ACP or render gives a façade a focal point and a sense of craft. It reads as expensive precisely because the rest of the building isn’t, so the contrast does the work.
Institutional and Civic Façades
For buildings that must project permanence — civic landmarks, institutional headquarters — fuller stone veneer elevations are justified. Here the prestige and the multi-decade service life are the point, and the budget reflects that.
Plinths, Bases and Datum Bands
Stone at the base of a building grounds it and takes the knocks and splashes that damage softer finishes. A granite plinth under a lighter upper façade is a classic, durable combination.

The Honest Engineering Word
Stone is the one family where the support structure is genuinely part of the decision, not an afterthought:
- Weight. Even as veneer, stone is heavier than ACP, HPL or fibre-cement. The sub-frame, the fixings and sometimes the wall behind are engineered to carry it — checked against wind load to ASTM E330.
- Fixing and back-up. Thin stone needs the right mechanical fixing or a quality backed panel; a stone that is simply adhered to a weak substrate is a failure waiting years to appear.
- Stone selection. Granite is dense, durable and forgiving; some limestones and sandstones are softer and more sensitive to weathering and cleaning. We match the stone to its exposure and position.
- Non-combustible — a real advantage on entrances and institutional buildings where the fire class matters, classified within the façade to EN 13501-1.
